LAST DAYS OF SUMMER

It's been a busy couple of weeks. I won't bore you with the details of work and life but I will share about my weekends with you ;)

It seriously feels like just last week, my old college roommate and friend was asking me to be her maid of honor. I don't know how the hell it happened but we're already wedding dress shopping which is all it's made it to be y'all. Except she has a great family so there are no nightmare situations where everyone tears her apart or shits on her choices (I'm assuming everyone has watched an episode or two of Say Yes to the Dress). She's a lucky one I tell ya! This past weekend was spent amongst a sea of tulle, taffeta, lace, and all things blingy. As I stated before, the days spent playing dress up as a child was simply training for this event.

And as we get closer to fall, we insist on squeezing the good things summer has to offer. Live music outdoors, sweating our asses off while laying in hammocks, and enjoying every last bit of frose we can get.

May I also point out that this is the exact reason why I can't recall what my friends have said...I get distracted taking pictures while they talk. Distracted by their gorgeous faces though so not like I'm THAT terrible a friend. Right?

Non-related to any of this, but is anyone else excited about Bridget Jones Baby coming out this Friday?! No? Just me and the girls? ok...

SAN ANTONIO

I once went out with a man who had what I considered to be a strange habit of stopping during a walk to admire the buildings we were passing up. Now of course, I never said anything about it, you know, to each their own. I stop to look at trees sometimes or graffiti on walls and some might stop to look at buildings. I never appreciated the reason behind it or bothered to admire the same buildings. But I get it now!
This past weekend was spent in San Antonio with my mama and I actually found myself stopping to admire the buildings around us. It's a shallow observation but I could not get over how pretty the structures were. I appreciated the use of color and texture for reasons I couldn't explain other than they were aesthetically pleasing. So the long line of pictures below are of those things. From the colorful walls at the market to the weathered walls at the San Jose Mission.

We spent our time at Hotel Valencia right on a quiet part of the riverwalk mainly laying down, reading, and watching tv until it was time to eat. Although, Friday evening mom did her own thing and went to a show while I showered, took a nap and watched a few episodes of Modern Family. I know, you're probably thinking how lame to waste hours like that, but I felt in dire need of some quiet time. Once mom's show was over, I turned off my phone, left it in the room, and met her up for huge margaritas the size of my head (believe me I have a big head) on the riverwalk.

The next day we were able to squeeze in some hours at Mission San Jose. I've visited the Alamo before so I felt it necessary to expand our history tour to other missions. Now, I'm not saying the Alamo isn't great to visit, but Mission San Jose felt less congested, bigger and more open, and the guy playing the piano in the church really added a great touch. I actually sat in there for about six songs and pretended to be on the set of Pride and Prejudice. Obviously not the correct setting, but the music alone made me feel very 1800's.

I mean, tell me these structures aren't just beautiful?! Till next time San Antonio!

Frosé ALL DAY

All summer long, I have been craving Frosé, well ever since reading this article to be exact. Then not long after reading that, Mel tagged me in a picture that showed a local spot selling the drink, slush? Same thing right. It was obviously a no brainer to check it out on an afternoon when our hair stuck to our necks and the sweat poured from our foreheads. The evening turned out to be a fun lady date with a great live band which we've been meaning to go back for, cold ass drinks, hammocks to relax in, and a beautiful distant view of our skyline. Axelrad, your Sunday's have won my heart!

ATX

A while back I watched Chef with Jon Favreau, he goes on this tour across america in a food truck making a stop in some very touristy spots. You know, the ones you always hear about having a long line extending for multiple blocks. One of those spots was Franklin Barbecue in Austin. So we made the drive and did all things touristy during my five day weekend.

We woke up and got to Franklin's about 10 minutes before 7a.m., we grabbed some lawn chairs and made ourselves comfortable to endure the long wait. Five hours and a few chapters later, we made it inside for our meal. You guys...that meal was the most sensual thing I've ever experienced and the long wait was well worth it.

In the words of my friend Mel, I am now sexually attracted to barbecue.

Short walk on South Congress during 101 degree weather was also included in this trip. I'm not kidding either. If you're not from Texas, you wouldn't understand, the heat was almost unbearable, I actually stepped into stores for the AC, not to buy anything. With the exception of Mañana. The iced green tea was heaven after that walk!

And I can't get over the capitol ceilings no matter how many times I visit. The history and all was great too, but I mainly go for the pretty details ;)

Other places I stood in line for: Voodoo Doughnut. Located on 6th Street, the kids can practically go from getting wasted to sobering up with some delicious and beautiful doughnuts.

Added bonus, Mexic-Arte Museum. Check it out!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY: FREE PRESS EDITION

Houston's been having this little dark cloud over it for some time now when it comes to the weather so I'm actually shocked that our Free Press Summer Festival still went on. That being said, it didn't come at a cheap price, they moved venues to what is essentially a parking lot, it was muddy as hell from all the rain, and we were evacuated on the second day. Don't worry, I had THE BEST company so it made it all bearable.

See what I mean about the cloud over Houston? That's while they attempted to evacuate the park which didn't work out because most of us weren't budging.

At some point mother nature threw us a bone and gave us something pretty to look at.

Matt and Kim brought cute party favors, balloons, beach balls, and blow up dolls.

Modest Mouse played much better than the first time I saw them and closed out Day One for me.

BØRNS was charming and gave a flawless performance. And please note my friend Mel's amazing fairy dust hair.

Matt and Kim, as always, were fun and energetic.

Skies began to clear at some point, you see what I mean about crazy Houston weather?

Okay final picture, Alex Ebert was amazing!!! Dude smells (yes I smelled him and you would have too if you were that close) and sounds like peace and tranquility.

Not pictured but also equally great:

- The National who sang all my jams minus Pink Rabbits which guys, I played that song I don't know how many times after my last breakup.

- The Preservation Hall Jazz Band totally made me get happy feet

- The Coathangers brought all my teenage angst back

- And some DJ that made me bust moves like I was at a rave in 1995
